Wild animals in the area are shy and scattered. It is a home for bushbucks, warthogs, ostriches, hyenas, jackals, vervet monkeys, the endangered Grevy zebras, gerenuks, migrating elephants.
Baboons and leopards are often heard close-by in the granite rock cliffs and the fig trees abound with birdlife. In close proximity to the lodge, we have an exciting natural rock slide and a perfect picnic site, a fun spot to spend the midday hours.
There is a multitude of walks one can take from the lodge in the dry rugged country on the valley floor or high in the Cedar forest.
‘’May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds” – Edward Abbey
The vegetation gets denser as you climb until it eventually turns into a fully-fledged rainforest, accompanied by all the joys that they bring. The flora and fauna are incredible, monkeys rush between trees and they provide a welcome respite from the heat. Your final ascent to the main peak is amply rewarded by views down to the scrubland below.
